LaStone therapy is probably the best known stone massage with its roots in Native American culture, beliefs and traditions. It wasn't until 1993 that this juxtaposition of heat treatments and massage were combined by Mary Nelson to create an effective therapy. Techniques The training syllabus for forms of stone massage varies at different institutions. Often full body brushing is encouraged to improve the elimination of toxins and to help to combat cellulite. Whilst this is a concept fully supported by FAB Detox at FAB Detox body brushing is only carried out on trouble spots following consultation so that the maximum time is concentrated on the heat treatment itself. Clients are encouraged to integrate body brushing into their daily routine. Basalt stones are placed under the body including either side of the spine, there are stone placements on the body and warm stones are even placed between the toes, stones are both tucked and held during the massage treatment. Chilled stones are used for certain conditions, thermotherapy is not a new concept however with the added dimension of the stones as a tool the treatment is called geothermotherapy. For a general relaxing massage you may prefer not to have chilled stone treatment. Benefits A relaxing treatment recommended for stress and anxiety due to the sedative effects on the nervous system.
